How can improv help with "training your brain"

With many thought and mood disorders, it is very difficult to keep out of your ruminating thoughts. One way improv helps with that is by getting you out of your thoughts and into that moment. Instead of having competing thoughts in your mind, improv helps you to focus on one thought. It is like training your brain to focus outside of yourself.
